So the environmentalists want to control every aspect of our lives. Really? What would they gain from that? It doesn't take much thinking about to realise that there isn't a motive for them to do this.
Writing this book, on the other hand, has been very profitable for the author. Steven Milloy has been paid large sums from Exxonmobil, the most profitable corporation on the planet with sales in excess of $1bn a day - and the company with most to lose if people believe climate change is happening. Prior to this he was paid large sums by Philip Morris, the world's largest tobacco company, and he even had a letter printed in the British Medical Journal claiming that the studies it had reported "do not bear out the hypothesis that maternal smoking/ passive smoking increases cancer risk among infants".
What a nice chap.
Here's a quote from the Guardian newspaper, from 19th September 2006:
"Milloy also writes a weekly Junk Science column for the Fox News website. Without declaring his interests, he has used this column to pour scorn on studies documenting the medical effects of second-hand tobacco smoke and showing that climate change is taking place. Even after Fox News was told about the money he had been receiving from Philip Morris and Exxon, it continued to employ him, without informing its readers about his interests."
Milloy would probably have felt right at home during the McCarthy witch hunts, such is the disdain he portrays towards anyone with an interest in securing a future for the Earth, and it's inhabitants. This book exists purely to enable the ridiculous idea that we as a species can consume forever, without repercussion. Don't buy it.

Thank you for this timely and well researched and written expose. You are highlighting the anti American fervor these green terrorists are trying to
promote.I also recommend Michael Crichton's State of Fear [2005] he is a true genius and has vividly described and extrapolated what will happed if these
radical leftists further their agenda .An end to America as we know it. You are appreciated. I'm sure you will make allot of money with your book every penny
you make is driving them mad. No one orders their books.

Temper tantrum from someone who wants it ALL Jul 07, 2010
This is a very funny book. If you just replace every mention of `environmentalist' with `communist' you'll understand where Milloy is coming from. Greens are the new Reds! They're everywhere. They've infiltrated our Government, Schools, Universities, Charities, Pension funds... You name, it, they're there, peddling their dreadful green ideology. He admits early on that this book isn't about the science. It sure isn't. It's about money, vested interests and the frantic efforts of free marketers to deal with the inconvenient truth that there are too many of us using up too many of the Earth's resources and changing the climate without considering the consequences. Milloy can't argue with the science, except for disingenuous references to `hypothetical mathematical models' and claiming that the consensus is endorsed by only 2000 scientists whereas more than 31,000 have rejected global warming alarmism (a reference to the thoroughly debunked Oregon petition). From then on the whole book is a tour de force of scaremongering - the greens are desperate to dictate your mobility, diet, home energy use, the size of your house, your diet and how many children you have. So nothing about being responsible and considerate towards our neighbours and descendants then? Milloy is like a stroppy child who won't accept that he can't have everything in the toyshop. No one is going to tell him that his personal carbon footprint is seven times bigger than the ideal target. Why, he'd have to stop flying and even turn down his thermostat and aircon to get his twelve league bootprint to the size they suggest! Milloy isn't going to live under the `green thumb'. He doesn't like the facts - imported food has an environmental cost - so he retreats into crowd-pleasing rants about choice and freedom. He accuses the greens of scaring children (by telling them the truth about the consequences of global warming presumably) and warns that they're being indoctrinated so that they will criticise their parents. They might point out that their parents' behaviour is selfish and short-sighted and that they'll be the ones picking up the mess? Talking of mess, Milloy makes some inaccurate comments about fortnightly refuse collections in the UK - been reading the Daily Mail too much, I suspect.
In the madder parts of the book Milloy even finds room to accuse the greens of being partly responsible for the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters as well as the collapse of the Twin Towers in September 2001. We should have kept using asbestos and CFCs and then everything would have been fine! (It takes only a few moments research on the internet to find that this is rubbish).
Milloy is especially scathing about greens in business - an economist found that Corporate Social Responsibility imposed significant costs on business - oh really? He attacks RAN's successful Citigroup campaign, presumably because it was successful. Milloy has realised that saving the Earth, not to mention saving ourselves isn't compatible with unregulated free-market capitalism and he doesn't like it.
Milloy has done us all a favour by showing clearly that the global warming debate is not about the science but about politics. For Milloy and his ilk the monetary cost of taking action is too high. He doesn't see environmental damage as a cost because you can't put a price tag on it. Then again, what's the use of a nice house if you don't have a decent planet to put it on?

"The central concept of this book is that there is hardly any area of your life that the greens [or environmentalists] consider off-limits to intrusion. There is almost no personal behaviour of yours that they consider too trivial or too sacrosanct to regulate...Throughout this book you will encounter, up close and personal, the myriad [of] encroachments and invasive oversight mechanisms of your day-to-day life that are lurking behind the shiny, seductive label that reads 'green.'
A powerful network of individuals and organizations is propelling this [green] agenda...to force the green's idea of environmental virtue on you."
The above comes from this book by Steve Milloy who is the founder and publisher of Junk Science dot com, a columnist for Fox News dot com, co-founder of the Free Enterprise Action (mutual) Fund, and co-director of the Free Enterprise (meaning free market) Project.
In the book's introduction we're told that "it is beyond the scope of this book to debunk the scientific claims of global warmists." I found this odd considering that Milloy is founder of Junk science dot com. So what is this book about?
This book is about how environmentalists (or "greens" as Milloy calls them) are, in our democratic society, pervading every level of society and making "green" policies that are wrecking the fabric of society. His hatred of environmentalists is so great that even President Obama is in his cross hairs since Barack Obama is "The First Green President." (This is the title of chapter 11).
Milloy presents things that environmentalists have influenced or have a green solution for and argues that their influences or solution are just plain wrong. I found that all his arguments had flaws. There are two types of arguments I found in this book: (1) those that are difficult to refute initially (since you have to really think about what Milloy has said) and (2) those that are incredibly easy to refute. Here is an example of an argument that's difficult to refute initially:
This is with respect to hybrid cars (that is, electricity/gas hybrids, a proven technology) which environmentalists are advocating. According to Milloy, "considering their huge cost [that is, a hybrid's higher sticker price] and negligible environmental impacts [that is, the atmosphere 'probably doesn't notice' the amount of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, that's not emitted by hybrid cars compared to the vast amount of carbon dioxide emitted by natural sources], then hybrids are a double rip off." Looks like a fairly good, concrete argument.
However, Milloy has forgotten (?) a few things. People who buy hybrids get rebates from the government and this brings down the sticker price. As well, the maintenance costs for an electricity/gas hybrid are much lower.
Contrary to what Milloy says, the amounts of carbon dioxide not emitted by hybrid cars IS noticed by the atmosphere. A scientific fact that he doesn't tell us is that carbon dioxide that comes from natural sources is naturally reabsorbed by our planet.
He also doesn't mention the significant noise pollution that is eliminated since hybrid cars are so quiet.
Milloy also gets his facts wrong a number of times. For example, in his discussion of pesticides (which are chemicals), he tells us that "asthma is not known to be caused by exposures to chemicals at all; it's a physical response to an allergen." WRONG! Allergens cause (you guessed it) allergies. Asthma has a number of causes. Cold air can trigger asthma and even exercise can induce it. Allergens can also cause asthma but are not it's sole cause as Milloy states.
Finally, I have a confession to make. I always check the background of authors who write books such as this. I found that Milloy was involved with oil companies but I did not know in what capacity. To my amazement, he tells us in chapter 7 in the section entitled "Silencing the Heretics." At the beginning of this section, he tells us that the Union of Concerned Scientists issued a report complaining
that (my upper-case emphasis added):
"Exxon Mobil has funnelled nearly $16 million...to a network of...advocacy organizations that sought to CONFUSE THE PUBLIC ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING SCIENCE."
At the beginning of the next paragraph in this section he states:
"It's interesting to note that these...organizations, SOME OF WHICH I HAVE BEEN AFFILIATED WITH, received what averages out to $46,500 per [organization] per year."
What a revealing and stunning admission!! Did Milloy write this book to confuse the public?? Judging from what I have read in this book, I think so.
In conclusion, be very, very, very careful when reading this book. I wonder what Steve Milloy is going to write next? Perhaps a book that argues that second-hand smoke does not cause cancer. Maybe. (He has, you guessed it, also close financial ties with tobacco companies.) I know! I know! His next book (possibly published by those free enterprise people at BP oil) is going to be on how massive oil spills are beneficial to the environment and the people & animals that live in the area of the spill. (Milloy believes in offshore oil drilling at any cost.)

Steven Milloy is anti-science Dec 16, 2009
If you see Steven Milloy's bio, he is against everything scientific.
Hopefully he doesn't use a computer, medicine, or electricity. As these are all products of science. How can he trust his medicines as they were created through scientific research? I can imagine Milloy living in a shack like the unibomber, typing on an old maual typewriter, shunning all technology, since science is hogwash. All science is an evil psuedo-government plot to destroy humanity! Please understand where this goof is coming from before you believe his writings.
